The Lord of the Rings:  The War of the Rohirrim The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is an upcoming animated fantasy film directed by Kenji Kamiyama from a screenplay by Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou, based on the novel The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien. It is produced by New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Animation with animation production by Sola Entertainment. A prequel set 183 years before the events depicted in the 2002 film The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, it stars Brian Cox as Helm Hammerhand, a legendary King of Rohan. Also starring is Miranda Otto, reprising her role as Éowyn from the live-action The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. Development of the film was announced in June 2021, with the involvement of Kamiyama, consultant Philippa Boyens (who co-wrote The Lord of the Rings film trilogy), and initial writers Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews. It is intended to be the 34th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and a sequel to Deadpool (2016) and Deadpool 2 (2018). The film is being directed by Shawn Levy from a script by the writing team of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick as well as Zeb Wells, Ryan Reynolds, and Levy. Reynolds stars as Wade Wilson / Deadpool alongside Hugh Jackman, Morena Baccarin, Brianna Hildebrand, and Jennifer Garner. Development on a third Deadpool film began at 20th Century Fox by November 2016 but was placed on hold after the company's acquisition by Disney was completed in March 2019.
